Sept. 15 to October 15 was National Hispanic Heritage Month. Many RNHA chapters and members participated in and organized events around the nation.

The Oregon RNHA Chapter had the honor of hosting the first event with RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman on Sept. 14.

The chairman was our featured speaker at RNHA reception on Sept. 28, at the roof-top of our new offices overlooking the White House, to honor all the Hispanic Appointees to the Bush Administration.

Virginia, Maryland and DC RNHA members were all invited to attend the closing event on Oct. 12, Columbus day, at the Capitol Hill Club with members of the RNC Hispanic Advisory Committee and attended by several of the founders of the RNHA.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Ken Mehlman today addressed leaders of the Republican Party and Hispanic community at the Capitol Hill Club in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. Accompanied by members of the RNC Hispanic Advisory Committee, Chairman Mehlman detailed the national party's commitment to reaching out to Latinos and communicating the Republican agenda.

"I am proud to be chairman of a party that is totally committed to spreading a positive message, and to including more faces and voices. Because of the leadership demonstrated by President Bush and Republicans in Congress, the GOP is offering a real opportunities for every American," Mehlman said.

The RNC reception celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month serves as the final event in a month-long effort to communicate Republican principles and encourage Latino participation.

Chairman Mehlman kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 14 by hosting a "Conversations with the Community" event in Portland, Ore. During a roundtable discussion with Hispanic leaders, he championed record homeownership numbers, increased small business ownership and the shrinking achievement gap in classrooms across the country.

On Sept. 22, Chairman Mehlman keynoted a luncheon with the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders (CONLAMIC) in Washington, D.C., where he reiterated shared values and the Party of Lincoln's principle that freedom is God's gift to every man, woman and child.

Chairman Mehlman addressed members of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA) on Sept. 28 and emphasized the contributions and achievements of Republican Hispanics in America. He also conveyed his gratitude to all those who worked so hard to increase Latino voter participation to almost eight million last November, securing more than 4 in 10 Hispanic votes for President George W. Bush.

RNC leadership and staff, including Chairman Mehlman, met with members of the RNC Hispanic Advisory Committee on Sept. 30 to discuss how President Bush's positive agenda is benefiting and helping Latinos achieve the American Dream.

On Oct. 7, the RNC unveiled the new Spanish-language Web site, GOP en Espaņol. The site serves as a new mechanism to encourage more Latinos to get involved, and communicate President Bush's and the Republican Party's message to all Americans.

And yesterday, Chairman Mehlman addressed members of Hispanic and African-American communities in Waterbury, Conn. at a local NAACP event. He spoke to the Republican Party's commitment to closing the education gap, wealth gap and opportunity gap in our country. Chairman Mehlman concluded today's event by saying, "This reception celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month may conclude the month's activities, but our commitment to inclusion will not cease. We will continue to work hard each and every day to grow our party."
